Subject: [Maine-birds] Downeast pelagics
While this may be a little east of the list's territory, our sighting of the day while on a whale watch boat out of Campbello, NB (just over the bridge from Lubec, ME), was a Magnificent Frigatebird flying over the Grand Manan Channel. Hopefully, it will be heading south into ME waters, so coastal birders should be on the alert. (Unfortunately, we were the only birders on board, so no one quiteunderstood our excitement over the Frigatebird. It was, well, magnificent! )
Also seen from the boat were:1 Pomarine Jaeger, Sooty Shearwaters (many), 1 Arctic Tern, 1 Common Tern; and Black-legged Kittiwakes (5-6?).
