Campobello Eagles

Yesterday ( November 29) was a lovely, calm day and I took the blind out to the porch early to see if the eagles would come and sit on the sugar maple and they did! The first to come was the male who sat behind a tangle of limbs that was impossible for the camera to get through. But soon along came the female and sat in a very good spot. The photos start at the blue one with the flying eagle and go to the end.  I enjoyed this day very much.  Joyce

Subject: Lawrence Station Landfill Report

This morning, I visited the landfill in Lawrence Station in hopes of  finding some wintering buteos. I am sorry(sort of) to report that the  only wintering raptors observed were no less than 13 Bald Eagles (the  actual number of eagles present was likely higher). During my time at  the landfill, I scanned the landfill, the skies over it, as well as,  all the posts, poles and trees within sight. No other birds of prey  could be found. After leaving the landfill, I did find one adult Red-  tailed Hawk in a tree next to the highway.

Eagles Meeting Place at Deer Island

No videos or pictures in your ILQW email? See them at http://ilovequoddywild.blogspot.com

Hi Art –
Thought I'd send this along, although quality isn't as good as most photos I see on ILQW.
Was travelling on the Deer Island Princess on Aug. 27 headed to Deer Island, when Colin, who works on the boat, alerted us to 7 or 8 bald eagles sitting on this exposed rock. I had noticed a couple of eagles fly by the front of the boat and assumed they were landing in the trees... but instead they were gathering here as the tide was coming in, waiting for...?  Or maybe it was just a "Sunday Social". Anyway there appears to be 5 in this photo, on the south side of MacMasters Island.
Regards,
Mary Bartlett
P.S. I love this ILQW site! Always something nice to look at over coffee & flakes in the a.m.

Quoddy Eagles now on Flickr at:
http://www.flickr.com/groups/quoddyeagles/

Our beautiful eagles have just been given a group of their own on Flickr. This is a new way for you to contribute to the I Love Quoddy Wild database.

If you already have a Flickr account, please join our group and send your eagle photos and observations. If not, then go directly to our group and join, or send us an email and we will take care of that for you if you wish.

The season is underway and we would like to start getting information in on our eagle population, nesting sites, fledglings and more. So join today, send your photos and help us take care of this precious Quoddy "asset".

Thanks
Art

Oh yes! Invite your friends. We need more observers and photographers since we hope to have a special Quoddy Eagles Day; a day when we all check for eagles, their young, location, activities, nests, and interesting behaviour in your own area of Quoddy and report this to I Love Quoddy Wild. The data will become part of a report to be prepared next fall.

Bay of Fundy - Golden Eagle and Bald Eagle Contest

Date: Mon, 2 Mar 2009 09:26:01 -0400
From: NBNature Listserv

On December 2, 2002 me, Alain Clavette and Roger Guitard were lucky enough to observe interaction, over the water off Anchorage provincial park on Grand Manan, between an immature Golden Eagle and an adult Bald eagle and it was evident (to me at least) that the Golden was the dominant bird.

The Bald Eagle would try to get the upper ground (in a way of speaking) by climbing higher but the Golden would rapidly cut him off and would consistently stay over the Bald. There flight style was also quite different with the bald having that slow, labored flight that we know well while the Golden always seemed to be going faster and with some purpose.

All of these details looked to me like the attributes of a superior hunter and in any case with the two big guys going at it over the water betweenAnchorage and Wood Island the duck were sure keeping a low profile.

Strange Eagles or What?

Apparently someone dumped some fish at Todd's Point on the St. Croix Estuary and this has attracted eagles and crows. When I passed by this afternoon there were 2 adult eagles and two strange "little" raptors that looked more the size of osprey than an eagle. They are dark and strangely coloured, but very scrawny for immature eagles. I think that is what they are, however. Please give me your opinion. Sorry about the photo quality. Best I could do in the available light.

Thanks
