Eastport, Maine, Ayuh!

I just ran across a beautiful blog commentary about Eastport. If you ever have been down in the mouth about living in Quoddy, then you owe it to yourself to read this wonderful article. I have just included the very first paragraph so click on "more "to go to the whole article. It'll make you feel good ... and warm inside.

Enjoy

It’s rare for me to be so enthralled by a small community that I tell my husband that I am ready to move there; I’d move to Eastport in a heartbeat. I’d have to do it fast before my brain kicked in, but my heart felt so connected with the warm and friendly people that my sensibilities were smothered—much like the lobster smothered in butter I had last night at the Chowder House Restaurant.

Eastport - Deer Island Ferry Sightings

No videos or pictures in your ILQW email? See them at http://ilovequoddywild.blogspot.com

Art,

I and a friend took the Eastport-to-Deer Island ferry, and back, today. On the way to Deer Island we saw a juvenile and an adult minke whale several times, along with numerous harbour porpoise, and seals. On the return to Eastport, we again saw one minke and harbour porpoise and a seal.

The minkes were between Indian Island and Dog Island, nearer Indian Island.

Now here's one for the books!

Art, a finback whale near shore sprayed customers dining on the deck at the WaCo Diner in summer 2007. I don't recall the month.Bob

Non- breeding adult eiders at Split Rock

There have been a dozen or more eiders that are adult non-breeding adults in the cove at Split Rock on the causeway to Eastport. I have never seen the non-breeding adult plumage and it fooled me until I looked it up.  Joyce

Birds at Lubec and Eastport

Downeast - A few lingering PINE GROSBEAKS were found in Lubec on the 12th. Undoubtedly spring overshoots, ORCHARD ORIOLES (2) are visiting an Eastport backyard.
