Got great looks at an adult COOPER'S HAWK this afternoon from the Old Dump on the Whistle Road. It was "escorting" a male Northern Harrier through its territory, and stayed with it for a full five minutes before drifting back down to land somewhere near Eel Lake. I wouldn't be surprised to find them nesting in this area. The size difference between the two was negligible, and the Cooper's hardly flapped at all, but mostly glided, unlike the constantly-flapping Sharp-shinned Hawks. Average date of first spring arrival for the province is April 18th, so this is about a week early.
