Not the best weather for it, but I just saw a BARN SWALLOW here at Bancroft Point. Only briefly about 3 pm, and it appeared to be a male. Might survive, but even with sunny skies, the SW wind makes it feel much colder than the +5C air temp. This bird is likely associated with the weather conditions of the last few days that have brought (so far) 4 Purple Martins and 1 Barn Swallow to Nova Scotia.

The TREE SWALLOWS arrived this morning, more-or-less on schedule. There were two at noon hawking insects at Bancroft Point in the surprisingly warm sun, which we haven't seen much of overthe past 10 days or so.
The forecast (for a change) was much less optimistic than the nice day we are having. As usual, they pick the first day that is sunny, without too much wind, and a temperature around 10C. They will retreat to their
woodland ponds for the night for the next couple of weeks, but are here to stay (for three months anyway, we get to share them with Florida).
