Doshay's, Dochet's, Muttineguis, Bone Island, St. Croix Island

Whatever the name, Canada and the United States share this important historic island where the Demont and Champlain attempt at a permanent settlement failed after the ill-fated winter of 1604

Owned by the United States, access to the Island is managed by the US Parks Service, but if you get a chance to go ... then go. You can feel the history there and the wildlife is quite spectacular with osprey, seals, and some unique and colourful invertebrates like the sea mouse.

Don't miss the shore-side parks that celebrate the island and its history at Red Beach, ME and Bayside, NB. The sculptures on the American side are particularly good.

Thanks to the intrepid Tim Foulkes for this current photo.
