Finback, Minke, Right Whale and Dolphin Action from Grand Manan

Hey Art,

We are watching fin whales and minkes off White Head Island just above the Clarks' Ground. Since last Monday our route hasn't varied by much - North Head - White Head and back. We have been around the northern end of Grand Manan a couple of times but the lunge feeding fin whales, sometimes in groups of 10, have been consistent and mostly predictable. Also Southern Head and the western side of GM is thick with brit.

There have been 4 right whale sightings, including one today but all have been from NS whale watch boats, a couple relatively close to NS, one in the GM Basin and one between the Prong (south of Gannet Rock) and above NE Banks. We haven't ventured out to the GM Basin except one trip and just skirted the western edge. I did see a patrol plane this afternoon well to the south going back and forth. That would be the easiest way to see if there are any whales elsewhere.

We saw white-beaked dolphins just off Long Island, 7 in total, Monday.

Cheers,

Laurie , Grand Manan Whale and Seabird Research Station http://www.gmwsrs.org/main.htm
