A New Brunswick company has put 13 islands in the Bay of Fundy up for sale, with prices ranging from $65,000 to more than $3 million.

The islands are off New Brunswick's southern shore, near Blacks Harbour and Back Bay.

Connors Brothers Seafoods bought the islands in the 1940s to keep fishing weirs in the area. But the weirs have been moved and the company doesn't want to keep paying taxes on unused land.

Brian Cullinan, the Saint John real estate agent selling the islands, said the asking price for Frye Island, the largest property, is $3.1 million.

"Frye Island is about 900 acres [360 hectares]. It's about a few hundred metres offshore, which is easy access," Cullinan said.

"Years ago, they used to have a house on there. … It's an interesting property. And there's about nine miles [14.5 kilometres] of shore frontage with that property, which is phenomenal."

In his 37 years in real estate in Charlotte County, Cullinan said, only one or two islands have come up for sale. The Bay of Fundy is famous for its high tidal range.

He said there's a good chance some of the buyers will be American. And Heather Chase, municipal clerk of Blacks Harbour, said foreign buyers would not come as a surprise.

"I do know that we do receive inquiries from a lot of Americans. And I know, here in the municipality of Blacks Harbour, a number of Americans have purchased small cottages on the waterfront," Chase said.
