Downeast

On August 23, a juvenile BAIRD'S SANDPIPER was photographed among the estimated 500 shorebirds gathered on the South Lubec sand flats. Another juvenile BAIRD'S was found on the 25th on the south shore of Gleason's Cove in Lubec along with several RED KNOTS.

Lately there have been over 5,000 gulls feeding in Head Harbor Passage off Eastport straddling U.S. and Canadian waters. Among them on the 25/26th were: four LITTLE GULLS [in NB waters - Bill Sheehan], a couple LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS, and several dozen BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES.

On August 26, a LEACH'S STORM-PETREL was closer to Deer Island, New Brunswick.

  1. There are probably close to 100 kittiwakes that frequent Head Harbour Lightstation rocks.
