Downeast Birds - Maine Bird Alert, August 13th

A NIGHTHAWK was observed in East Machias on August 12.

Five WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS were on the Lubec Sand Bar August 12.

A LITTLE GULL was roosting on Sandy Ledge near Eastport on August 10.

Gull and tern numbers in the Passamaquoddy Bay region are building with 2000 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 400 BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES, and 400 ARCTIC TERNS and COMMON TERNS on August 10.

Four SPRUCE GROUSE, five BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS, eight GRAY JAYS, numerous OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHERS and BOREAL CHICKADEES, two BAY-BREASTED WARBLERS, and several singing WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were highlights on the Burn Road in Topsfield on August 8.
