Eleanor Roosevelt's movies from 1953 - The way things were.

From the Eleanor Roosevelt Archives. Thanks to Joyce M. As she said in her email ... "see what we've lost.". Optimist  that I am, I thought we could get it back. But maybe not enough folks actually "get it"?

  1. If the Potomac and the Delaware Water Gap can now be teeming with fish( I've seen them) , we can do it too. But not without cleaning up our act.

  2. We can get it back, but not without cleaning up our act. If the Potomac River and the Delaware Water Gap can do it( I've seen them teeming with fish)so can we. Priorities would have to be changed.
We have a wonderfully designed estuary that will give us riches beyond belief forever if we only can let it alone to do it's thing. Nothing we can design will ever work as well as the design of the natural world which has had a few thousand centuries to work it out.

  3. I'm with you Joyce. It's actually not that long since we had the teaming fish. But step one is to protect against heavy industrial developers who seem to continually Want to screw this place up ... forever!

  4. I agree, and perhaps those that make up most of our tourist industry agree too. People are slowly "getting it". But enough, fast enough, is the question. I particularly enjoyed seeing the boiling bait balls (herring jumping at the surface) which I remember hearing, (about 1970) one very quiet, foggy night in my cabin sloop when moored in the cove between Spruce and Sandy Islands alongside Harry and Martha Bryan accompanied by some very heavy periodic breathing as the whales came in. Memorable!
