Made our last trip to Machias for the year, always a sad day. Many terns around, hope they make a big return next year. The whale watch this afternoon produced 4 humpback whales. Also 2500 greaters, 250 sootys, 7 manx shearwaters. Minimum of 1000 wilsons storm petrels, 6 gannets,1 pomarine jaeger and 2 parasitics. Phalarope numbers at about 100 red-necked. Puffins 300+, common murres 2.
Beautiful day on the water, calm enough to scrutinize every greater shearwater ... while the rest of the boat watched whales. Short distance to travel to the whales, just east of Whitehead Island.
